For Men: Ed Djafer - The Muscle & Hustle Method
As a man in my late fifties, who has just edged a year closer to 60, I considered myself fit until two years of Covid lockdowns got in the way of my fitness regime and knocked my daily habits for six.
Like many of us, I heard myself uttering the words: “Enough is Enough! I need to do something now!”
As my thoughts cascaded into the ether there seemed
to be divine intervention as within minutes, Ed Djafer had contacted me. As a health and performance coach, who describes himself as a person “who loves helping entrepreneurs to succeed in their health, performance, and business,” he was writing to introduce himself and tell me about a book he has authored:
The Muscle & Hustle Method.
Having a copy sent via email, I picked it up to be confronted with my very words, which Djafer uses in his introduction.
As I read about Djafer I became more intrigued. He got into personal fitness when he arrived back from holiday and, at a photo of himself on the beach could not help but notice what his body was telling him. He writes: "I felt sick to my stomach seeing the man boobs and flabby sides hanging over.”
That resonated with me.
He talks about his life growing up, leading to a point where he realised deep down, he was not the person he wanted to be.
This prompted him to immerse himself into fitness, learning everything he could about training, diet, and nutrition. It is a fascinating read how he started to take a long-term view and examine his lifestyle.
Interestingly, he combines business and fitness and looks at the obstacles and struggles whether it be in either or life, drawing parallels for business leaders.
After ten years as a personal trainer, he set up a health and performance coaching business to help busy, male entrepreneurs and business owners not only to transform their body, but to use that journey and, process to apply to the rest of their lives.
It is unashamedly for the male physique, which is refreshing. The book is built into nine chapters where he describes things in terms of dominoes; the first of which is for guys in their 30s and 40s.
Here Djafer looks at the effects of testosterone the male hormone for performance and what gives us drive, confidence, energy and, of course, the basis of our strength, vitality, and passion for building a greater life.
He describes the effects of testosterone well and the impact on our lives as we get older, and the inevitable weight gain begins.
The plan is to get optimal levels of the hormone and to realise the effects stress has on lowering it.
Djafer details what low levels look like, even down to discussing why men have erections in the morning, as well as emphasising the hormone’s importance. As you would expect there are tips on how to improve levels and one of the excellent parts of the book are the case studies that bring each chapter to life.
He goes into depth on nutrition again using one of his clients as an example to demonstrate his points and offers examples of diet plan, discusses snacking vs structure meals, and asks his readers to look at their drinking habits.
The chapter on exercise blows away some myths and another successful area of this book is helping to develop what a personalised workout programme should look like.
Of course, once you start a programme it takes commitment, and this is addressed by Djafer in a section about systemising. Understanding that fitness can feel like a chore, Djafer discusses computer programming the brain through developing habits and how to juggle lifestyle plus the importance of repetition.
But it all comes down to ROI (return on investment) and in an enlightening chapter he ties up how to get body fit and grow your business, answering the question: why is your body important to performance in business? We may know the answer, or think we do, but to have it all linked opens the receptive mind to understand the positive benefit and ensures that
The Muscle & Hustle Method is a worthy goal.
So, if you have the vision, and want to build self-confidence and change your lifestyle then recognise your body is your biggest asset; it is the first step to being a leader and a role model.
It comes down to three basic principles: Build, Systemise and Vision.
And as Djafer writes: "It is a great place to be. A place of true happiness."
It is an informative read, practical and answers the questions we all have, in a detailed and engaging way.
If you want to change your lifestyle, get fitter and more successful, why not give it a go. I have.
