North East’s First Dedicated Endometriosis Clinic For Women Hailed As A ‘Game Changer’
A new clinic is the first in the North East to privately offer specialist treatment for one of the most common female medical conditions.
Consultants Choice Clinic, in Stockton, has launched the region’s first dedicated private endometriosis clinic. The service is believed to be the only specialist provider within 100 miles of the region and has been heralded as a “game changer” for thousands of local women.
Endometriosis causes womb lining tissue to deposit elsewhere in the pelvis, causing heavy periods and excruciating pain.
Approximately 10 per cent of women suffer from endometriosis. For those experiencing infertility, that can be as high as 50 per cent.
Despite being the UK’s second most common gynecological condition, the closest dedicated clinics to the North East are based in Manchester and Edinburgh.
“Considering how common endometriosis is, until we launched, patients told us about the staggering lack of options and support locally for women in the North East,” said Consultants Choice Clinic founder, Hailey Dobbs.
“We were determined to fix that, and we hope our new endometriosis clinic will make accessing the care and treatment needed both easier and quicker - along with providing some hope that they now have a local service “
Ease of access is at the heart of the Consultants Choice Clinic, which aims to support under-pressure NHS services by providing a painless pathway for patients seeking speedy, affordable access to trained medical professionals.
Located at Infinity House, in Surtees Business Park, patients can self-refer – meaning they don’t first need to see their GP to gain access to a consultant.
For women using the endometriosis clinic, they won’t require an MRI scan with the service utilising pioneering diagnostic techniques.
“The unfortunate reality is that long NHS waiting lists and GP waiting times have made it harder for patients to quickly access the care they often urgently need,” added Hailey.
“For a condition like endometriosis, which can cause chronic pain, fatigue and impact a woman’s ability to conceive, patients understandably want treatment as early as possible.
“That’s why we are proud to launch this specific endometriosis clinic in the region, which is not only affordable and efficient but supports the NHS by providing a second route to the care you deserve.”
