The average child receives 8-15 presents each at Christmas, but as many as 24 per cent will find them before the big day comes.
Hiding them from sight is evidently a challenge for many parents, who are of course keen to keep the magic of Santa Claus alive.
To help families keep their presents a surprise, Debra Hutt fromWren Kitchens, has shared top tips on finding ideal spaces to hide gifts from children – or even from a partner who is keen to sneak a peak ahead of Christmas morning.
Unused spaces
Put yourself in your family members shoes and think about which spaces they tend not to use. For example, if they are likely to not go into the loft, hide your gifts in a storage container in a cool and dry space within the loft and only go in there when they are not in the house.
Store them up high
Children and even some teenagers can struggle to reach high up. If your bedroom has tall storage space, such as fitted wardrobes or cupboards, utilise the space at the back or top which is traditionally only used for your belongings. Ensure gifts are concealed by clothing or other items and try not to put too many gifts in one space to avoid them being discovered.
The unusually uncommon spaces
Some of the most unusual spaces can be the best places to hide presents. For example: suitcases tend to only be used a couple of times a year for family holidays, therefore if you don’t have a trip planned around Christmas time, your presents can be hidden away inside your case without rousing suspicion.
Tap into your kitchen space
The kitchen is one of the more unsuspecting rooms to hide presents, given it’s used by most of the family every day.
If you do have young children, it is likely they won’t think to look for their presents in the cupboards. Corner cupboards are often deep enough to store away any smaller gifts, subtly tucked away at the back and use pots, pans and appliances to conceal your items.
Outside the home
If you’ve exhausted the storage options in your bedrooms and kitchen, one effective method for keeping gifts concealed is hiding them outside your home.
This can be in external storage spaces such as garages, sheds or even the homes of friends or family, but ensure they’re making the most of the space around the house to avoid attracting unwanted attention, ensuring everyone enjoys a magical surprise when opening their presents this Christmas.
