Another week of football in Yorkshire is over, and matchday 27 saw Hull City get back to winning ways. Facing Millwall away, The Tigers won the game 1-0 in the 58th minute, when the hosts’ Jake Cooper scored an own goal.

Arguably the biggest game of the weekend in Yorkshire saw Leeds from the West of the County take on South Yorkshire’s Sheffield Wednesday. Leeds continue to lead the way in the Championship, as they aim to go one better than last season failed promotion attempt. As for The Owls, after a turgid first half to last season, Danny Rohl has built on the great escape last season, by helping Wednesday to 10th place, just four points short of the play-off places. It has been an incredible turnaround, with Sheffield Wednesday the fifth best team for points accrued in the league in the calendar year for 2024. This outstanding turnaround could come at a cost, with manager, Rohl, sure to be on the radar of higher placed teams looking for a change in fortunes.

This derby match went to form though, with Leeds running out 3-0 winners. It wasn’t quite as comfortable as the scoreline suggests, however, Wednesday gave themselves an uphill struggle when a goalkeeping mistake led to Solomon seizing on this opportunity to give Leeds the advantage in just the third minute.
Leeds were the dominant team, but only made the result safe in the 88th minute, when substitute Ramazani found the net. Deep in injury time, Tanaka put the icing on the cake with a well-taken finish, as Ramazani turned provider.

Sheffield United welcomed Norwich City at Bramall Lane in what was a tough challenge for The Blades. However, Harrison Burrows grabbed a brace to ensure The Blades kept pace with other promotion contenders at the top end of the table.

Middlesborough lost their clash against Portsmouth after scoring the first goal through Latte-Lath in the 30th minute. The home side then came back when Matt Ritchie scored in the 54th minute and again in the 82nd minute, to send Boro’ home with no points for their efforts.

In League One, Huddersfield Town drew 2-2 with Blackpool after a close game, which could have gone either way. The Seasiders went in at halftime leading 2-0, but Town quickly equalised at the start of the second half. Debutant Joe Taylor and Brodie Spencer made in all square just five minutes after the break. Despite chances for both sides, there were no more goals and an entertaining fixture ended with a share of the spoils.

One of the most entertaining displays came from Rotherham United, who won 4-2 against Charlton Athletic. The hosts took an early lead, with Andre Green opening the scoring. MacDonald and Zak Jules got the next goals for The Millers, making it 3-1 at the break. A goal apiece in the second half ensured that the home side took all three points.

Barnsley played at the Memorial Stadium facing Bristol Rovers. The Tykes were down 2-0, but were hopeful of a comeback when Josh Earl scored in the 67th minute. However, it wasn’t to be, with The Gas scoring a third late on to make the final score 3-1.

Bradford City won a hard-earned three points from their away clash against Carlisle United. The Bantams didn’t see the ball as much as the hosts but made good use of their chances and scored through Calum Kavanagh in the 54th minute, which was the only goal of the match.
Similar to Bradford, Doncaster Rovers secured a 1-0 victory, facing Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium. Luke Molyneux beat Glenn Morris in the 33rd minute to steal all three points down south. Back home, Harrogate Town won 2-0 after Cheltenham gifted them two own goals. Luke Young and Scott Bennett were the players that gave away the points to Harrogate at Exercise Stadium.

In the National League North, Scarborough Athletic defeated Farsley Celtic with a huge 5-0 score. Richie Bennett started the show in the 19th minute, followed by Alex Brown, Dominic Tear and Luca Colville. The scoreline was closed by the same Richie Bennett in the 78th minute.
