Bolton Vs. Barnsley Match Preview

Bolton return to their home turf this weekend as another fellow promotion-chasing side, Barnsley, visit Ian Evatt’s side.

Despite losing the EFL Trophy to Blackpool midweek, this will take less eyes off other competitions and full focus on league action as Bolton sit pretty.

As the season just breaks the half-way point, Wanderers sit 2nd in the League One table and just three points off Portsmouth, with also having the advantage of three games in hand on Pompey.

It’s a great position and one that’s certainly well merited for the Whites, as they’ve been sensational this campaign, but there are sides that will be ready to pounce at the first slipup Bolton have, such as Peterborough, Derby, and their next opponents, Barnsley.

The Tykes sit fifth in the table and are looking for a return to the championship for the first time since 2022.

Over recent weeks, their ascent up the table has taken off, as up until their defeat to Exeter, Barnsley entered an unbeaten run in League One that stretched back to November.

They will go into this game with real confidence of getting a result after possessing one of the league's finest away records, reading 28 points from a possible 39 on the road.

If previous fixtures are anything to go by, this game could prove to be a tight fixture with plenty of drama.

The two met in last season's League One play-offs, with Barnsley eventually prevailing after the two legs, so Bolton will be looking to overcome their opponents eventually and pile on more pressure at the top of the league.
